These are busy times… and that’s a good thing.
Last night at Open Studios went completely off. I’ll throw some photos up if I get the chance, but mostly I was too busy dancing or mixing to make with the clicky.
There is upcoming business to be aware of also.
On the night of the 30th I’ll be throwing down video and playing with Swarm at the Burn BC Cirque du Sag event happening at the Waldorf. I’m told things get going at around 8. At 10:00 there will be fire!
On December 11 and 12 Swarm will be premiering a new choreographed drum piece at the 12 Minutes Max series at the Firehall Arts Centre in Vancouver. More info to come on that date as it comes through.
That’s TWO local Swarm appearances in a month. This does not happen often, so haul yourselves out and witness the awesomeness.

the lighta! crew came through as usual - killer show, super heavy heavies and a wicked vibe.
the main video wall was one projector mirroring another, which was a bit odd, because it imposed bilateral symmetry on the mix. It worked out though - some results have been uploaded to my flickr gallery.

Today’s episode of Schlock Mercenary, by Howard Tayler is particularly awesome.
Tagon’s Toughs have been on my screen for several years now (with nary a day missed) but this is the first definite synchromystic occurrence between me and the strip.
It would be rude to give away the punchline - but check it out.

I’ve made recordings of the A440hz show at Open Studios available online.
A remixable audio file is up for grabs at CCmixter and a video record of the performance can be viewed below.
The oratory was extemporaneous (with notes) based on the guiding principles of the A440hz electromagnetic explorations project.
The video background was responsive to the environmental audio and is built of photographs (taken by me) of the [human hearing] portion of the A440hz installation.

Lifeboat (Open source sci-fi vidgame mix)
is the most recent ccmixter incarnation of a piece of my work.
I like it.
You’ll like it too. (If you like that sort of thing)

I’ve been doing some tidying on the site and there have been a number of updates.
There are fresh photographs of recent events (on Flickr) and a vicious new video mashed with the stylistics of local Max Ulis (vs Meesha)
viddy this:
(Audio: max ulis vs meesha - lighta! sound)

These are busy and exciting times.
Shambhala was an amazing and intense experience.
SWARM has been consistently playing successful shows.
But a review will have to wait because off all the upcoming business.
I am all over the New Forms Festival this year, playing at 3 nights -
the A440hz grand opening on Thursday the 6th
The Dubforms4 event on Saturday the 8th
Plus the A440hz gallery opening on the 15th AND the Newforms Manglification event that same night.
Holy crap.
Plus the school season kicks off this week with SWARM.
We work harder indeed.

The NOVINT Falcon is a haptic interface device.
It allows you to feel the shape and heft and texture of virtual objects.
I’m particularly interested in the tactile component of haptic technology:
With tactile feedback, a user can feel forces applied directly to the skin, which are detected by a user through sensors within the skin called mechanoreceptors. Tactile feedback can also be applied to a user through electrical currents applied directly to the skin or objects that can vary in temperature touching the skin. For example, tactile feedback can be accomplished with pin arrays on a haptic device that a user places a hand or finger on. The pins within the pin array can slightly raise or lower as the haptic device moves, giving a sensation that the user’s finger or hand is moving across a virtual object with texture.
Their discussion of 3d touch is pretty good.
