This weekend Swarm played the Mary Irwin theatre in Kelowna to an enthusiastic audience. We had a great time.
The video we used included some appropriated images that should be credited.
video for Spinfectious included a clip from the film Bodysong
video for 7of9 included a clip from At Land
video for Anung Un Rama contained a clip from Meditation on Violence
short clips from a plethora of public domain movies were used throughout, thanks mainly to publicdomaintorrents
More images and video clips to come in the next few days.

Several months and a variety of huge life-altering events later it’s time for me to pick this project up and dust it off. If you know what’s happened, you don’t need an explanation, and if you don’t know it probably doesn’t matter too much anyway.
The important thing is that the game is afoot.
There are updates to upcoming events in the calendar section and more things to come.
In the meantime, here are some photos of Swarm in the recent Vancouver Celtic Parade.

Today’s episode of Schlock Mercenary, by Howard Tayler is particularly awesome.
Tagon’s Toughs have been on my screen for several years now (with nary a day missed) but this is the first definite synchromystic occurrence between me and the strip.
It would be rude to give away the punchline - but check it out.

I’ve made recordings of the A440hz show at Open Studios available online.
A remixable audio file is up for grabs at CCmixter and a video record of the performance can be viewed below.
The oratory was extemporaneous (with notes) based on the guiding principles of the A440hz electromagnetic explorations project.
The video background was responsive to the environmental audio and is built of photographs (taken by me) of the [human hearing] portion of the A440hz installation.

Last night was the inaugural shindig by the cod brothers at the Waldorf tiki lounge here in rain city. Basketweave walls and original Polynesian paintings made for a chill ambiance and there was room to dance in.

Fresh photographs thanks to a friend with a hookup at a biochemistry laboratory.
I was smuggled in last weekend and stole some photons.

Thanks to the wonderful Ubu Web I’ve been playing with some classic experimental film, particularly the works of Maya Deren.
Experimentation with: Meditation on Violence and some more with At Land.

I’m fresh back from a prairie tour with the mighty Swarm. We played rural communities in Alberta and Saskatchewan. The prairies are amazing and beautiful. Frequently we passed fields of farm equipment in various states of disrepair, scattered at random over the grass.
I returned with many photos. Many of the photos are of rust. You can see some of the photos on flickr.

Sadly, time constraints prevented us from stopping at every heap of clang and batter to bang away. All was not lost though - our hotel in Oyen, Alberta was right beside the local farm-equipment museum where several hours of fruitful improvisation were had.
We also played the E.A. Rawlinson centre in Prince Albert Saskatchewan. The theatre there is great and the technical staff are supremely helpful. After setting up the show we were left with some extra time, so they set up smoke machines!
So helpful was the tech crew that we were able to pull off reactive video backdrops for the whole second half of the theatrical show. We were able to video the whole thing as well, so there should be some images up shortly. stay tuned…

The Ministry of National Defense has spent a lot of time thinking about how to turn the Army into an operation capable of dealing with the future. Apparently they had no time to spare for art. The above cover for Future Force - has Buck Rogers helmets and a hovering tank. The blaster gun turret on the tank even has those little round raygun indicators. [pdf link]
Crisis In Zefra was written by Canadian science fiction writer Karl Schroeder, who I’ve mentioned before. It’s a pretty cool document - each chapter is followed by questions for study and discussion. Things like “What are the ethical considerations in deploying robots against humans?”
If the Canadian military tech and tactics improves at the same rate as the cover art we should be ruling the world any month now.

I was going to try and write some kind of compehensive review of the excellent Apocamon comics, which retell the book of revelations using brutal manga style. There were going to be many adjectives like ’stupendous’ and phrases like ‘retrousse postmodern juxtapositions of disparate cultural signifiers’.
But it’s more important that you read the comics than anything I have to say about them.
Episodes come infrequently, but new bits of episode 4 “charge of the Lion Horses” are seeping out now.
Go. Read ye them.

Display technology is doing crazier and crazier things all the time. I remember not too long ago when immersive display was a big deal.
Now a team of Danish engineers and designers have built 3d imaging tank where the image of your choice can float suspended in a tank up to 30m.
Cheoptics360:
The Cheoptics360 can display both computer and film content when used either indoors or out and scale from 1.5-meters on up to 30-meters. The video images generated by the four projectors are re-assembled within the prism-like pyramid through a process of mirroring and reflection making them appear to float in mid-air.
There is a video:
